Inflation for depreciation
AFM
answered on 25-Jun-26 09:43
Sir, in 1st illustration - Method 1 we inflated depreciation but in this question we only took 200000 for every year without inflation can you please explain this sir. [Video Time Stamp: 14:54]
latest answer
Depreciation is accounted at historical cost. There is no impact of inflation on it. However when we compute tax and FCF and then apply inflation on it , we see an impact - this is the critical aspect we need to understand in both questions. Go through Q 42 where this diff comes out more clearly

as u said assuming 1858.08 is npv which is being received at the end of the project or at year 5 .... how can we compare or equate $172lakhs and rupee 124.5cr which they are present values.... then if we donot take $172lakhs in to consideration atleast we have to change the 124.5cr into future value knowww....... while we are finding forward rate? [Video Time Stamp: 21:00]
latest answer
NPV = PV of all inflows - V of all outflows USD 172 lacs is already in PV terms so its value is as of day 0 Rs. 1858.08 lacs is NPV - so it is also as of day 0 Rs. 124.5 cr is invested on day 0 - so no need to convert it to any PV as it is already in PV terms We are assuming a single Fwd rate ( forward contract rates are agreed today even though they are rates applicable for transactions at a later date) for converting all Future CF after arriving at their PV in USD terms to convert to USD such that NPV is 1858.08 lacs INR

Sir why the effect of price elasticity not considered in part b while computing initial profit of 1872000 [Video Time Stamp: 12:00]
latest answer
First line of price change to 25000 is part P of Part B of the question Another part ( Part Q) of Part B is when price change is 25000 + exchange rate change Another part of Part B ( Part R) is with 25000 & elasticity Required solution is diff between Part P & Q and Part P & R ICAI has solved like this only - check page 10.104 https://resource.cdn.icai.org/87851bos-aps2163-ch10.pdf
