In this question why only entries for exercise period is passed Shouldn't we pass entry on 31.3.X1 as the year end is before the excercise period? Please explain this sum

The journal entries are wrong. It is : Cash a/c dr. Discount allowed a/c dr. To debtor a/c You will allow cash discount only when debtor is making you the payment.

Freight charged by creditor is payable immediately right .then how come it s shown in creditor account

When frieght charges paid immediately then, Frieght charges A/C Dr **** To Cash **** Here we don't write creditor A/C

In buyback why do we credit Equity shares buy back a/c? Can we not credit Equity share holders a/c similar to what was done in case of redemption of pref shares?

yeah you can , but for the understand you done a buy back , you better credit buy back a/c in second entry you can credit equity SH a/c i.e equity buy back a/c dr to equity sh a/c and in next entry you can credit bank a/c
