Rupee appreciation means moving from 75 to 70 For imports of 1 mio dollar we have to pay lesser rupees so we save money. However exports become uncompetitive thereby reducing inflows . Opposite happens when rupee depreciates. In recession phase when country is not doing well depreciation will encourage economic activity and spur economic growth.
