I think they almost mean the same.

It's more or less same. But, a slight difference between them is that, DISINVESTMENT means selling of small portion of ownership whereas, divestment means selling majority of ownership or partial ownership...

They mean same. ICAI has created unnecessary confusion
Divestment - generally means disposing of a part of business.
Disinvestment - generally means selling of investment held in another entity
