Can you explain unamortized past service

Why is unamortized past service cost reduced by 10% and from overall benefit. Isn't it suppose to be a benefit and hence should be added. Unamortised past service cost has a debit balance. Liability reduced by 600 - gain Unamortised past service cost balance to be reduced - basically expensed - 18 SO net gain ins 582
