Why is accounts payable not checked by accounts payable listing?

In case of overstatement of receivables, we can get to know which accounts were overstated by listing all accounts. But in case of understatement of payables, listing of accounts may not be appropriate as already some parties would have missed. That understated party or amount possibly would not be there in total accounts payable listing.
