Yes he has to register bcoz his aggregate supply exceeds the limit ...but it depends on the state in which he does the business

Hey there, Great question — and it’s one that confuses a lot of people when they’re dealing with both taxable and non-taxable supplies under GST. Let’s break it down simply: Situation: Non-taxable supply = ₹50 lakhs Taxable supply = ₹8 lakhs So, total aggregate turnover = ₹58 lakhs Does this person need GST registration? YES, GST registration is required if your aggregate turnover exceeds the threshold — and that aggregate includes both taxable and non-taxable supplies. In this case, even though only ₹8 lakhs is taxable, the total turnover is ₹58 lakhs, which exceeds the ₹20 lakhs (or ₹10 lakhs in special category states) threshold for GST registration (for service providers) or ₹40 lakhs for goods in some cases. Key Point: Aggregate turnover under GST includes: Taxable supplies Exempt supplies Non-taxable supplies Exports Inter-state supplies So even if most of the supply is non-taxable, it still counts toward the threshold. Exception If the person is dealing only in exempt/non-taxable supplies, then registration is not required. But the moment there's any taxable supply, even a small amount (₹8 lakhs in this case), and the total turnover crosses the limit, GST registration becomes mandatory. TL;DR: Yes, GST registration is required in this case, the reasons go as: Total turnover = ₹58 lakhs Even though ₹50L is non-taxable, ₹8L is taxable You’ve crossed the registration threshold To get professional consultation/assistance on GST, reach out to any GST or taxation expert such as Setindiabiz or any trusted one!
