Chapter 2. Pls tell me if my understanding is right or wrong about the paragraph I have attached as a screenshot

Indirect Taxation

answered on 13-Aug-23 18:43

This paragraph is talking about a situation where people get a discount on their insurance premium (the amount they pay) if they don't make any insurance claims in the past. This discount is called 'No Claim Bonus' (NCB). The question was whether this discount can be seen as payment for a service from the person getting insurance to the insurance company. The answer given here is that this discount is not a payment for a service because when someone buys insurance, they do it to protect themselves from losses or injuries. They aren't agreeing not to make claims just for the discount. So, this discount isn't considered as payment for any service between the person and the insurance company.

In case an asset becomes NPA subsequent to balance sheet date, will provision be created on the B/S date ?

latest answer

Provisions for assets that become Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) after the balance sheet date are generally not created on the balance sheet date itself. These provisions are usually made in the subsequent accounting periods, once the asset has been identified as an NPA and the impairment assessment has been carried out. The provisioning is based on the assessment of the asset's recoverable value and the relevant accounting standards or regulatory guidelines
