Indexation benefit

Direct Taxation

answered on 24-Jul-23 11:51

Can we give indexation to the COA of equity shares? Because in third proviso to sec 48 it clearly says indexation is not available to equity shares, units of equity oriented funds and units of business trust... But the solution to the additional illustration 10 (indigolearn material) of capital gains chapter gives indexation to equity shares...

latest answer

Unlisted equity Shares indexation benefit should be given , listed equity Shares, we get the benefit of FMV as on 31st Jan 2018, if it was purchased before that date, if indexation benefit is taken for listed equity Shares too, long term tax would be 20% instead of 10%.
