Why marginal utility of money is constant

latest answer

The marginal utility of money remains constant even though the quantity of money with the consumer is diminished by the successive purchases made by him. It is assumed that while marginal utility of a commodity varies with the quantity of the commodity purchased, the marginal utility of money remains throughout the same as the quantity of the good purchased varies. This assumption becomes necessary because the marginal utility of a commodity is measured in terms of money. It is considered desirable that the measure itself should not keep changing. When a person purchases more of a good, the amount of money with him must diminish and the marginal utility of money must increase. But this variation in the marginal utility of money is ignored and it is assumed to remain constant throughout. To facilitate the diminishing marginal utility of commodities, to provide it a context ; marginal utility of money is held constant .

Sir, here in icai material, the interest on debentures have not been considered, although in class sir have included it in the answer, i also feel that interest must be considered, will it be considered correct if we account for interest aswell?

Can assume either ways. In the class I took the part of interest not paid as at times students may forget to adjust for it.

If the interest of a money is equal to its one by nine, the rate of interest and time are equal then find rate of interest is. (a) % (b) 4½%

latest answer

Assuming, it's a simple interest that is being talked, we shall have SI = (1/9) P SI = (P x R x T)/100 implies (1/9) P = (P x R x T)/100 since, rate of interest and time are equal, we shall get 100/9 = r sqaure implies 10/3 - 3-1/3% will be interest

Is general reserve same as free reserve?

latest answer

Thanks for adding value. Yes, it's a special reserve, but a free reserve only. A company may not earn consistent profits every year. To maintain similar level of dividends, it may transfer amounts to a special reserve.
