Deemed pure Agent Service (vs) composite Supply of Rent & electricity

Indirect Taxation

answered on 02-Apr-26 16:48

I have a doubt regarding the GST valuation for electricity charges recovered by a Mall from its tenants. ⚡ The 'Deemed Pure Agent' Case: The provision suggests that if electricity is collected on an actual basis (even if the bill is in the Mall’s name), it is 'Deemed as a Pure Agent' and shall not form part of the value. ✅ The 'Composite Supply' Case: However, in Question for a shopping mall providing electricity as part of a composite supply (renting space), the answer is marked as Taxable, stating it is included in the value of rent—even if billed separately. ⚠️ My Specific Questions: ❓ How do we distinguish between a 'Deemed Pure Agent' recovery and a 'Composite Supply' in a real-world exam scenario? 📖 If a Mall recovers electricity charges on an actual basis but under a Rental Agreement, which rule takes precedence? 💡

latest answer

Practically it is always included and it is taxed.

Circular permutations

Maths & Stats

answered on 26-Mar-26 22:24

Sir, while solving the question about arranging 7 boys around a circular table such that two particular boys never sit together, you first explained that without any restriction the number of ways is (7-1)! = 6! Then, to find the cases where those two boys always sit together, you said we can consider them as one unit. That makes it 6 places, but you mentioned it as 5 places. I am confused about this step. Could you explain it again?

latest answer

Arranging n boys around a circular table is done in (n-1)! ways. For 7 boys its 6! ways When 2 boys are always together then we take these 2 boys as one unit . Now n becomes 6 ( 2 boys as 1 unit + remaining 5 boys) . So total ways is (n-1)! which is 5!. Trust this clarifies

What is material uncertainty i didn't understand clearly mam..........could u please explain it with an example

latest answer

It’s mean The business may survive or may fail. The decision depends on uncertain future factors and this uncertainty is important enough to affect users’ decisions. A company has a huge loan due in 3 months, but: -It does not have enough cash -It is planning to get a new loan to repay the old one So, If the new loan is approved then company survives If not then company may shut down.

Long term capital gain House property

Direct Taxation

answered on 24-Mar-26 18:47

I have a query regarding capital gains on a property sale. The property was purchased in 1996, transferred to the son in 2025(gift), and then sold in March 2026. Could you please clarify how the capital gain will be calculated in this scenario? Specifically, will indexation benefit be applicable, and should the purchase cost be considered from 1996, or the Fair Market Value as of April 1, 2001?

latest answer

We can consider the original cost or FMV on 1.4.2001 whichever is higher. Further, we have an option whether to go for indexation or no indexation.
