Forward rate on settlement
Financial Reporting
answered on 26-Mar-25 11:44
Why have you been taking 81.75 which is the spot rate as on 30th April for settlement? We have entered on 1st March itself to be settled at 82 as the forward rate is on 30th April. Accordingly settlement should be at 82 right. But why 81.75? As it is being settled at the spot rate on 30th April, then what is the purpose of the term 'forward contact'?
latest answer
Its not an actual forward contract but a kind of notional forward contract. When we agreed to sell copper after 2 months, relevant price or expected pricing is 82. When we actually receive the dollars on 30th April, we have to sell it in spot market which is at 81.75. SO our expectation was to receive at 82 but when we actually sold the dollars in the market, then we incurred a loss.

You have mentioned that after conversion of potential shares into ordinary shares, it will included in both Basic EPS and Diluted EPS but in this question, 25000 shares are included only to the extent of conversion date i.e 3 months in diluted EPS. Should we not consider it for 12 months?

Don't we recognise the FV changes of share price like accounting for forwards/futures?
latest answer
When share prices change, the value of options also change. We account for changes in value of options.

Explain point 6 in simple language
latest answer
Keeps the cost and profit margin hidden from branch managers, preventing misuse (like starting a competing business). Helps in stock control — by ensuring: Opening Stock + Goods Received (at invoice price) – Sales = Closing Stock. Ensures uniform pricing across branches and reduces branch-level pricing tasks.
