If bonus shares are issued at the end of the year, should we assume bonus is post dividend and calculate revise dividend from 5th year

latest answer

Depends on Question - question will specify clearly. Dividend has a record date and so does bonus issue - question should clarify the record dates

Business Combination

Financial Reporting

answered on 22-Jul-24 12:40

Sir as explained in the lecture (Lecture - 5; Business Combination), If the Acquiring Company already has its personnel who are sufficiently competent to perform the critical processes to obtain the output (in the lecture the acquiring company already has its own competent sales force to perform the task), then the acquisition constitutes a Business Combination even if the acquiring company doesn't acquire the skilled workforce of the acquiree. Would the acquisition also constitute a Business Combination if the acquirer already has its own R&D personnel (in case of a pharma company) or Software Developers (in case of a tech. company) who are sufficiently competent to perform the task & generate the output?

latest answer

We have to look at the substance of the transaction. If we just acquire assets and not the underlying process, it may be more fitting case fo acquisition of assets. Process is very important while evaluating whether its a business combination or not. In your example, if we already have the personnel, what are we acquiring?

Sir, if risk increases, K also increases and therefore price falls. So incase of unfavorable ratios, the difference between the company and market/industy ratios, it is added to expected K to arrive the company's K. Am I correct or I need further understanding?

EPS of year 0 and EPS of year1

AFM

answered on 19-Jul-24 10:15

Sir, the question gives the information that the company retains Rs. 5 per share. As it is not specific about the period, can we assume it as EPS of year 0 and solve the problem? And what should we primarily do to figure out whether it is current or next year EPS in other problems as well. Kindly help me with this.

latest answer

It is based on what is written in the question. If Q says EPS as per annual report it is EPS0 because it of prev year, when say expected / budgeted it is of next year - beyond that it is subject to English interpretation

Sum based on FCFF and FCFE

AFM

answered on 06-Aug-24 16:19

Regarding the method for FCFF via Cash flow from operations, I asked a question on 16.7.23 that there is a mismatch in the format from that of Institute material as FCFF = CFO+Interest(1-Tax)-Capex from which you have thought. But this sum you have solved using the institute method only. Can you explain sir?
