The supreme court has given a 6 to 3 decisions upholding the lower court. The number of ways it can give a majority decision reversing the lower court is
latest answer
Total number of judges in the Supreme court is 6+3=9. To reverse the decision of lower court, we need to have more than 50% of the judgeâ??s support. 50% of 9 is 4.5 i.e. we need to have minimum 5 judgeâ??s support. It could have 9, 8, 7, 6 or 5 judge support. So, number of ways that minimum 5 judges lower the decision out of 9 judges is given by N=9C9+9C8+9C7+9C6+9C5 = 256

Make use of log properties mainly log a/b = log a - log b and log m^n = n log m. Simplify 8 as 2^3, 25 = 5^2 etc. Try once and if stuck, write here again. Answer will be 0. As they will cancel out.
