Processing as things happen. Opposite of processing as a batch in periodic intervels. Eg: Are all payments made as and when invoices are received or once in a week on friday at 5.00 PM?

Real time means as and when certain events occur they are recorded. Example: I can pass journal entries once a week or as and when transaction occur. If I record as and when transactions occur then it's real time. Real time gives more accurate information as it's UPDATED to the latest.
