Citizenship is not a factor to determining residential status. ( Citizen can be Non-resident and Non-Citizen can be Resident)

Citizenship is determined based on the place of birth of individual and residential status is determined based on no. Of days he stayed in the country

Citizenship comes with birth or state's approval. Residential status is determined based on the duration in a country. A citizen may not be a resident in the same country. In comparison with this, an individual being a citizen of a foreign country may still be an Indian citizen. The state of residence must be renewed from time to time, even if the person retains the same status for life. If a person residing in a country leaves for a long period of time, their resident status will change; since to maintain the status of residence it is necessary that the person live within the country in which he claims to have it.
