Every business has to perform some operations/tasks to run their business. Operations are those task which is the core function of a business. For example buying vegetables and selling food is operation of a restaurant and the same cannot be the operation of a software company. So the amt spent on core functions is operating expenses (eg. buying vegetable by restaurants) and the amt earned from core functions is operating revenue (eg. Selling food)
