Tenure for debentures

Corporate & Other Laws

Is there actually any maturity time limit for debentures..Or say it can be issued by the companies without mentioning maturity time.

No. You have ST debentures, LT Debentures and there is also a concept of perpetual debentures. RIL issues perpetual debentures a few years ago https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/ril-raises-800-million-through-perpetual-bond-113012900180_1.html

Okk .. Thank you sir..

However, please note that the tenure of secured debentures shall not exceed ten years from the date of issue. There are certain companies that are even permitted to issue secured debentures for a period exceeding ten years but not exceeding thirty years. So, secured debentures can't be irredeemable. Only unsecured deb can be irredemable
