I believe that it would be more beneficial for me and other students if faculty members solve problems on the screen by hand, rather than using an Excel sheet. Seeing the problems solved by hand could potentially increase retention and understanding. While I recognize that Excel is a useful tool, I think that solving problems by hand is preferable for the benefit of the students. Would it be possible to gather feedback from the entire Group through a survey or feedback form to see if others agree with this point? This feedback could then be used to improve teaching methods and provide the best possible learning experience for all students.

Yes, it would be a good idea to conduct a survey or feedback form to gather input from the entire group about their preferred teaching method. This feedback can be used to tailor teaching methods to suit the needs and preferences of the majority of students, and improve the overall learning experience. It's important to design clear and specific questions and include an open-ended question to obtain valuable insights.

While Indigo Learn offers comprehensive conceptual knowledge, I suggest that in some instances, solving problems by hand may be more beneficial than using Excel."

Thanks for the feedback. I would like to put forward few points here. We had taken student feedback before we moved to excel based solutions. Here are few reasons why we decided to stop writing on iPads and started excel. 1. Solutions where hand written is better than excel - hand written is being used. 2. Lengthy problems with too much text and numbers become confusing on screen at times. Sometimes they are not clear as well. Questions which require solutions in form of tables / tabular presentation are better presentable on excel. We also have the ability to give you back of excel solutions which you can refer when need arises. 3. The presentation on paper would be in the same way as shown on screen. Nothing changes here. 4. The earlier you get used to excel, the better it would be for your career. You would be able to understand the possibilities with excel when you start work. 5. We believe it's just a matter of time before even ICAI moves to online exams in the future as we have seen in the case of international courses.

I have more points to add 1. w.r.t MF chapter Every single cell has been explained and relevant working notes provided in all cases 2. All workings have been fully explained in detail. If this has been missed in a problem, please highlight and we will provide a revised video solution 3. From problems in a chapter like international financial management etc, where workings are fully based on tables, what you write in the exam and what I show on screen are exactly the same - in fact, if I were to manually compute every single discount rate, the essence of the problem will be lost and we would spend more time in calculation rather than understanding the substance of the issue at hand 4. Excel makes numbers far more legible and clear. we have in fact provided you excel sheets with all solutions for you to refer back to in case of a doubt If you feel that in any specific problem, we have not made a computation in the same way it has to be presented in the exam, please let me know and we shall make suitable changes

Finally, for everything new, we take time to adapt/adjust - Be open to trying out new things For chapters where excel was making more sense, only there we used it and not everywhere

I completely agree, you have used excel where it was actually required perfectly. With regards to retention, it is much better to write problems from our hands rather than by seeing teachers writing the solution with their hands. So does not matter whereever teacher writes ultimately what you would write in your notes is what matters. Drawing tables using hands does not make any sense, video length would unneccarily be increased.

Thank you for taking the time to explain your reasons for using Excel instead of handwritten solutions. I appreciate your efforts to provide the best possible learning experience for students and to prepare us for our future careers. After considering your points, I can understand why using Excel can be more effective in certain situations, such as with lengthy problems or those requiring tables. I also appreciate your willingness to provide revised solutions if we feel that any computation was not made in the same way it has to be presented in the exam. I am willing to try out new methods of learning and adapt to different teaching styles. However, as a student, I would still prefer to see some problems solved by hand for better retention and understanding, especially if it is a simpler problem. Would it be possible to have a mix of both handwritten and Excel solutions in the future, depending on the type of problem? Additionally, if there are any specific topics where handwritten solutions may be more helpful, could we please have more handwritten solutions for those topics? Thank you again for your efforts to provide us with the best possible learning experience. I appreciate your openness to feedback
