Supreme Court Hearing | Updates and Key Points

29-Jun-20 18:28

  • Out of 3,46,000 students, only 52,000 have chosen to opt-out so far[~15%]
  • ICAI has sought time till July 2 to issue fresh guidelines for the CA exam 2020 to be held in July the current cycle.
  • The court said that option to change the center should be open till the last week. ICAI is yet to finalize this matter.
  • ICAI said that in case a student is not able to be accommodated in any other exam center closest to them, then they would be taken in the November CA exam cycle
  • Supreme Court also asked ICAI to ensure that these students who pass the November exam should be considered to have passed the exam in July.
  • Supreme Court asked ICAI to be flexible regarding exam conduction because of the Covid-19 situation in the country and advised to permit students to opt-out of the exam till the last day.
  • Supreme Court asked ICAI to keep in mind the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Supreme Court will hear the matter again on July 2 after the new guidelines are out.

It is clear that even the Supreme Court at this point is not recommending cancellation or postponement of exams.

Sir. I am a parent. I would prefer ICAI should give option to change of exam centre till at least July 25th. For sanitization of centre it may require one day only. Existing centres are already fixed. But sometimes in any problem in the area students can change the centre rather than opt out

It is in regard students who opted out in July and appearing exams in November. If suppose students from maharastra opted out for July exams, and appeared in November, even though they passed in November, SC suggesting to consider them they are passed in July instead of November
