A may or may not know. A's knowing is not essential. The law that A cannot revoke offer after B has posted letter of acceptance is made considering practical situations. For an offer of A, B had to take some action to accept it. So, A gets bound when that action is taken. If A could revoke offer even after letter is posted that would be unfair to B as it had done its part and also there would be uncertainty in the mind of B, but contracts are made to be certain.
