Hi Triveni Patil, what you are referring is the Illustration as per old ICAI material. Here 30,255 is the shortfall in the balance of profit and loss that was required to pay dividend (Equity - 64,000 + Preference - 30,000) hence will be transferred from General Reserve.

What Kumar G has shared above is extract from new material applicable for May 21 exams and onwards. One thing to note in the same illustration in new ICAI material (pg 4.42) is that it mentions date of dividend declaration - 2 April, 20X2 i.e. after the financial year end. In this case, final dividend will not be recognized as a liability at the balance sheet date as per Accounting Standards. Hence, it has not been recognized in the financial statements for the year ended 31 March, 20X2 in the new material. Such dividends will be disclosed in notes only.
