Overview

Now that the registration period for Sept'24 & Jan'25 exam eligibility is over,  we want to quickly cover the eligibility criteria for CA intermediate registration. You need to remember that the first and obvious step is to clear the CA foundation exam, without which none of the other criteria will be applicable. Alternatively, you can enrol for CA Inter under Direct Entry Scheme as well.

Assuming that you have cleared the CA foundation exam, here’s the list:

Eligibility criteria for CA intermediate Registration

  1. Any student or candidate looking to pursue CA intermediate should have cleared their high school (10+2) examination conducted by the relevant examination body and they should have CA Foundation )
  2. Candidates can choose a direct entry without going through CA Foundation if they possess the following:
    • Commerce graduation or post-graduation with a minimum cut off of 55%
    • Non-commerce graduation or post-graduation with a minimum cut off of 60%
    • Intermediate level from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India or The Institute of Company Secretaries of India

A Few Guidelines After Clearing the CA Intermediate Eligibility Criteria

It is important to remember that students who go through the foundation route are required to go through 8 months of study after registering for the Intermediate course.

For graduates & postgraduates

Students who are in the last years of their graduation can register for the CA intermediate course by passing all the traditional requirements.

Nevertheless, a student choosing that route can start their CA practical training only upon clearing their graduation. They have to submit their certificates as a proof of accomplishment with the required percentage. Only then will they be eligible to start the course.

During this period of waiting, they can pursue other programs such as the orientation program or the ITT (information technology) program to prepare themselves. These courses should be completed before the start of practical training.

However, if these students fail to produce the evidence required by the ICAI then their registration will be cancelled and the fees will not be refunded.

And another critical aspect, is that they need to successfully complete nine months of practical training in order to appear in the Intermediate examination,

However, the candidates in the CA Intermediate who are registered directly after clearing the Intermediate level of “The Institute of Company Secretaries of India” or “The Institute of Cost Accountants of India”, gain the eligibility similar to students who’ve chosen the CA Foundation route. This means they have to go through only 8 months of study.

It is important to remember these guidelines as they are essential for the overall program.

Documents Needed for CA Intermediate Registration

Now that we know the CA intermediate eligibility criteria and a few guidelines to remember, let’s look at the documents you as a student would need during the registration:

  • A student choosing the CA foundation path should submit an attested copy of their 10+2 mark sheet and a copy of the CA foundation main exam paper.
  • Students choosing the direct entry must submit attested copies of their graduation or post-graduation certificates.
  • Professionals who graduated from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India should provide the relevant attested mark sheet.
  • A color photograph which was recently taken affixed to the form.
  • Proof of identity and nationality (Aadhar Card for eg.). An attested copy will suffice.
  • Proof of special category such as SC/ST/BC or disabled. An attested copy of the same.

Do ensure that you have all the above documents for a smooth registration process.
